why I rock frocks

I wear dresses nearly everyday. I love them because they’re easy to wear and help you look pulled together in a flash. Most of the dresses I own are pretty seasonless, too, and can be worn with tights and boots when it’s cold, or flats and bare legs when it’s warm — thus also helping to keep my morning routine (and closet) under control. To me, a few well-chosen dresses are key to a solid wardrobe.

And because I’m often asked about my dresses (including here, in the Washington Post), I figured I’d do a little post on my go-to designer for them: Shoshanna. Now, to be clear, I wear dresses from lots of designers: Tracy Reese, Piazza Sempione (when I can get them on sale — like a super-duper, after-Christmas sale), and J.Crew, to name just a few. But my favorite dress designer has to be Shoshanna because she makes dresses for curvy women, her dresses often have pockets (so practical, yet so rare), and her dresses are just so incredibly versatile. (Many are made in the US, too.)

My favorite dress style is this one:

I actually own this style in camel, so it goes with everything and can be easily dressed up or down. I also like this style because it looks great with ballet flats, wedges, heels, and boots. I’m only 5’2″, so it hits right at my knee, and because I’m somewhat curvy, it has a great fit-and-flare look that just works.  The magenta color shown here could also be dressed up or down, and would be a great way to add some zest to a neutral wardrobe.

Now this black and white dress I do not own, but really like  (hint, hint for Mr. M, as my birthday’s approaching). It’s classic, but not stuffy, and looks totally wearable for work or cocktails, depending on how you accessorize.

The point is dresses are easy, versatile, and fun. They can save you so much time in the morning. So go out and try some on.  Shoshanna may not be right for you, but I’m sure someone is!

Happy hunting!

Nicole
